Best Black Fireplace Paint for Door

My attention has turned to the living room.  We painted this room a few weeks ago – can't wait to show you the full makeover – but I've got a few finishing touches to do first.

Today's project was a quick and easy update that makes all the difference.  If you've been here a while, you know I'm all about the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to DIY.  I love a quick afternoon project that transforms the room!!

This house is all brass.  I mean brass door knobs, brass light switches, brass. brass. brass.  I can't stand it.  So I'm slowing getting rid of the brass room by room.

The fireplace doors were really a very pretty design, but all brass.  I knew with a little spray paint, we could update those suckers in no time!!

My fireplace doors were attached to the brick with just one screw on each side.  It looked like this when I stuck my head in there.   I just loosened those screws and the whole door frame comes off.  Easy peasy.

I took the door to our sun room and laid it on some big sheets of cardboard.  This room has a big door and a fan so it has plenty of ventilation.  Work safe – make sure you either wear a mask, and/or work outside!!

First up, I taped off the glass with painters tape (Tucker supervised – he's all about painting).

Then I just covered the middle of the glass with paper and taped it again.  **If you get any spray paint on the glass it can be cleaned off with a straight razor!**

Next I grabbed my can of Rust-Oleum High Heat Spray Paint in flat black.  Shake it up really good for about a minute and then get to spraying.

Spray in even layers, and several light coats is better than one heavy one.

I sprayed the whole thing pretty quickly and then went back to double check I didn't miss any spots.  You can see here it's already partly dry! This project only used about half a can of spray paint – so it doesn't take much!!

Here's a video of the process, if you'd like to see how it's done!

I only let it sit about an hour (I'm impatient like that) before re-installing it.  And BAM just like that we've got a quick and easy fireplace door update!

Disclosure: I collaborated with Rust-Oleum on this post but would have used this product anyway — I only share brands I know and love with you all, opinions are my own and are 100% true! To see my full disclosure policy, click here.

Well, what do you think, are you going to give it a try???

Next up, I've got to update that mantel, and paint some doors.  Can't wait to get this room finished!

Until next time – Happy Painting!
